Supplements to help induce sleep

Posted by MoparFan91 on February 22, 2005, at 18:15:12

Hi, I'm having a lot of trouble falling and staying asleep. It takes me about 2-3 hours to get to sleep, and I wake up about 5 times a night. As a result, I feel really tired and crappy during the day due to a lack of restful sleep.

I'm currently taking the following medications and supplements for my Bipolar II:

Medications:
Lamictal - 150mg in the morning
Geodon - 20mg 2xday

Supplements:
Fish oil - 5,500mg of EPA/DHA combined in 3 divided doses
Magnesium Glycinate - 400mg 3 times a day
Zinc - 50 mg in the morning
P5P (coenzyme B6) - 50mg in the morning

Here's a list of other supplements I have but am currently not taking:
Niacinamide 1000mg tablets
5-HTP (doesn't seem to help sleep. I only took 100-200mg at night)
Taurine 500mg caps (too much makes me feel down, it seems like)
Tyrosine 500mg caps
Glycine 500mg caps
Melatonin 3mg tablets (can't take because it worsens my depression)
Inositol 500mg caps
Kelp
B-150 Vitamin Complex
Chromium Picolinate 400mcg tablets
Theanine 200mg caps
Selenium 200mcg tablets
DHEA 25mg tablets
Borage Oil 1000mg gelcaps
Colloidal Liquid Minerals
Calcium/Magnesium Amino Acid Chelate/Complex 500/250mg tablets
Vitamin C 1,000mg tablets

Are there any supplements you would recommend to help me get a good night's sleep.

Do you think increasing the nighttime dose of Magnesium Glycinate to 800mg will help?

Do you think any of the supplements/medications I'm on could be interfering with my sleep? My sleep was horrible even before I took the Geodon and Lamictal.

Thanks
