Research at Mcgil University and The University of Ottawa says that Gota Kola acts on the CCK systems in the brain that cause the startle responce and social anxiety.It says that CCK 8 releases dopamine and cck 4 releases ne in the amygdala.The 5ht3 serotonin receptor must be activated in order for the cck 4 and 8 to be released.The cck 4 then inactivates a brain chemical that prevents phosphorus from combinding with inositol to activate the second messenger system in order to turn on the flight or fight area of the right amygdala.Just one small area of the right amygdala causes panic .You could burn it out with a laser as they do in epilepcy.These brain cells in the right amygdala are abnormal.They are highly sensitive to stimulation and fire wildly when stimulated.The big problem is that these cells do not shut off after they have been stimulated.This is called brain cell kindling and is seen in manic depression,panic attacks,ocd and depression.The Nobel Prize question is ,what causes brain cell kindling and how do you stop it ?Is it CCK4 or what?What are the factors that effect brain cell excitability. The right amygdala is involved in both mania and panic .You feel manic and panic in the same area of the forebrain. The left amygdala fires away like mad in depression. Any emotion can be produced by stimulating the amygdala in the right place. Taking an ssri drug would activate the 5ht3 serotonin receptor and make anxiety worse. Downgradeing this receptor would make it better. This is the paradox of ssri drugs. The right amygdala stores unconsious fear memories .The big question is ,once you have a panic attack at Walmart ,do you have a fear memory of Walmart that can never be erased ?Phobias can never be erased just surpressed and they can reapear in times of high stress. So ,can you never be cured of agoraphobia because it is a phobia of the whole world. Is laser surgery the only cure for panic and social anxiety?
