Chormasone 18 and bipolar

Posted by Ron Jones on November 3, 2003, at 14:43:02

Research has found that the gene that codes for inositol monophoshate on ch-18 has several diffrent forms of genetic defects.Lithium does not work on some of these defects.Several genetic defects were found in this gene in a small group of bipolar people. There may be several diffrent genes causes the same mental illness or there may be several types of defects in the same gene.I know of no genetic illness that needs more than one defective gene.Bi polar has the highest genetic correlation of any mental illness.Among identicl twins it is 80%.The other 20% is due to the gene never being expressed. You are born with the gene.Animals can be made to have BP by overstimulation of dopamine cells.BP almost never occurs by accident or brain injury. It is hard to duplicate.
