I have only recently stubbled across these in the course of wondering what herbs mimic the MAOIs.
Basically the impression I gathered on Yohimbe extract is that it does these things...
Stimulation of norepinepherine release.
Antagonism of NE-alpha-2 receptors, downregulators of NE.
Weak inhibition of monoamine oxidase.
I have been a little dismayed at the amount of amino acids I need to consume to stay focused, which leads me to believe something is wrong in my NE regulation or that it is getting overactively oxidized in my brain. I still have the feeling of fighting something from day-to-day that I would like a little more help with.
So I am giving a tincture of yohimbe bark a trial at lower than the recommended dose for a while. (20 drops of tincture in water, thrice a day... 30-40 is recommended) I chose tincture as the dosing is so flexible.
I am not doing this to boost sexual desire. I have more than enough of that as it is! *grin* (although I'm wondering if performance might be a minor issue) Indeed it is my association of yohimbe with aphrodesiacs that made me extremely skeptical of the notion at first, but its action profile is just too intriguing not to give it a try.
And yes, I will be on the lookout for tyramine.
