Supplement Interactions with Meds

Posted by shar on September 29, 2003, at 13:19:36

I had been wondering about this issue for a while, and while ordering some fish oil found a web site that has a place where you can look up interactions. They also have a "conditions" section that indicates supplements that may help or hurt in a particular condition.

The site is www.iherb.com/health.html. Click on The Natural Pharmacy, and then you can click on Conditions to get to depression, and other mental and non-mental conditions. For conditions, they give alternative treatments, supplements, and things that might not be helpful. There are links to articles and other sites with more info.

If you click on Drug Interactions (from the Natural Pharmacy link), and your drug is listed, (like Prozac) it gives you information on what supplements can help and hurt when taking the drug. Unfortunately, Wellbutrin was not listed. There is an entry for SSRIs as well as individual SSRIs, plus a ton of other meds.

The Natural Pharmacy link takes you to a different site than iherb.

Thought this info might be of interest to some.

BTW, I thought their prices on Omega 3's were good, too.
