I'd like to raise an issue about Babbler participation in the May '06 APA & AATP conferences in Toronto that doesn't seem to have been mentioned yet. I'd also like to raise it here because I think people who don't follow the Psych Board may be missing the whole Toronto discussion. It's not just a "psychology" thing, after all :-) (See thread at http://www.dr-bob.org/babble/psycho/20050901/msgs/550329.html)
My comments are general and are NOT about any specific person. I have seen no explicit threats by and make no allegations about any specific individuals.
However: the fact that the dates, times, and locations of the Toronto presentations are public *may* be a security concern, however slight. If an individual who resents either Dr Bob or specific Babblers decided to disrupt the workshop or engage in some kind of "protest demonstration" to present his/her views, it could be potentially upsetting to Babbler participants. If a hostile individual wanted to, he/she could do other things (take & post photos, for example) that could be emotionally damaging.
I don't want to overstate this risk. I think it is VERY SMALL. It would require someone being so agitated and committed to preventing a "positive" message about Babble that he/she would take significant time & money and (probably) fly to a (probably) foreign city and even risk police involvement.
But as small as the risk may be, I think it is worth discussing.
I personally hope that many Babblers will participate. Maybe there are steps to take to protect privacy as much as possible even when "going public"?
