To SLS - Re Ketamine/esketamine

Posted by Meltingpot on October 7, 2018, at 7:44:03

Hi Scott,

I hope you are feeling a bit better and have improved upon lying on the couch all day.

My friend in the States, who has tried everything, DBS, ECT, VNS, is having a great improvement with esketamine. I told her that you tried it to no avail and here she said as per the below. Would it be possible for me to babblemail you with her email address?

"There are so many things I want to share with your friend. Will he allow me to write him? I promise not to bully him. (Have I bullied you? I trust I have not. I certainly haven't about VNS,which is how we first met.)

First: it is esketamine and not ketamine. Chip--i.e., Jim from California--used a ketamine version of the nasal spray and said it did nothing for him but help him relax. The study I am in is "esketamine." Chip and I had a discussion about it and it is intrinsically different (available only in a study).

Is your friend in the States? I can look up to see if there is a site near him. He won't hafta do the leg work...just make a call.

Second: it took me a LONG time to get real relief (albeit, I felt some improvement weekly, enough to keep me going despite the lackluster results). In fact, I FAILED the first leg of the study (six-weeks) because my scores were too high/low/whatever. In short: I was still too depressed to be called any type of responder. Luckily for me, it meant that I 'qualified' to continue in the study without a placebo phase. (I know I wasn't placebo'ed during the previous phase because I tripped every time.)

I really want your guy to give this esketamine study due diligence. I suspect he was in a different trial because two weeks is not a "phase" in the study. It is too short a window"

Denise
