If we wanted to do a Lyme diagnosis on a suspicion, we would give the suspected patient Doxy and see what happens between day 1 and day 5. If it's Lyme, then this pattern is likely to happen: Patient will feel improved, a little, maybe a lot, sometimes a miracle, and this will happen on day 1, 2, 3,4, or 5, but most often day 2 or 3. this is soon followed by a deterioration and the patient often gets worse than they were to begin with! That is a solid diagnosis of Lyme.

So you aren't actually treating Lyme yet, but you are experiencing what it feels like when those bacteria are paralyzed and stunned. When they start to actually die off - a few days later - then you can expect to feel like crap. It will feel bad. Be ready for it. Know what it is when it happens. Know that it isn't you. It isn't your brain. It is temporary. Know that it is millions of dead bugs and their body parts and debris causing you to feel all that crap. It's a war. The grass is so green on the other side. But it is a war to get there.

For now I wouldn't change anything. If you start to feel bad, stop the Doxy for 2 days and then restart it. You will not lose any gained ground. The bacteria grow slowly. You can actually increase the effectiveness, and shorten the length of treatment, by using this "pulsing" technique.

Pulsing = antibiotics force bacteria into hiding, Doxy can't find them, stop Doxy, the bacteria come out of hiding, take Doxy again to nuke them, the survivors will go into hiding, repeat over and over and over. A good schedule is 4 days on and 2 days off. This will help to minimize the terrible depression and craziness of herxheimer die-off reactions.

Jumping ahead a couple months, after you've been pulsing Doxy at the highest doses you can get (up to 400mg per day, all in one dose is perfectly fine), you are going to want a 'cyst buster' antibiotic. That would be Flagyl. Start planting the seeds with your medical providers that you have interest in Flagyl going forward. It can be added to Doxy or it can be stand-alone. If stand-alone, then you want to rotate between Doxy and Flagyl on a weekly basis.

For now I would think a good strategy is to keep doing what you are doing, try to increase the dose at your convenience, no hurry, with 400mg as the upper limit, better than 200mg, and be prepared to simply stop Doxy for a couple days when you feel bad and then restart it again (pulsing).

The terrible mood of a Herx can come on gradually enough that you don't recognize it is happening until it is too late. For example maybe you have a terrible rage fit, anger, or your depression just gets really dark, or molehills in life - simple chores - become mountains, big challenges, hard to do, everything seems overwhelming. When you feel those kinds of things - especially what I call the 'molehill to mountain" thing, brace yourself because it is a Herx coming on.
