I am also trying to get off them at age 71 after a long history of periodic use, usually for side-effects from A/Ds. I am currently at 20 mg diazepam/day, and have previously run into major anxiety/depression when I get below this dose (especially 10 mg or less). My new, young doctor is adamant about getting me off them, despite a psychiatric evaluation that says I MAY need a continuing low dose. We have a perspective problem as I regard 20 mg/day as a relatively low dose and she (my Dr.) sees it as a high dose! The issue is complicated by pressure from the Canadian Medical Association on doctors to reduce benzo Rxs.

Trazodone prn
