I've been taking HIV meds for 10 years now...a couple of thoughts:

-Truvada has almost no clearance issues with psych meds in my experience (you can check medscape on a drug by drug basis). It is a combination of two drugs from the same or similar classes. It is normally the third drug that causes the issue with psych meds. Sustiva is the third drug in the typical cocktail.

This guy hits is the one that is responsible for anxiety, mood changes, sleep problems AND that interferes with a lot of psych meds like buspar, brintellix, viibryd, Latuda, provigil yada yadayada.

Aside from some start up GI side effects, I'm not aware anecdotally of truvada crossing these lines. I actually switched to an entirely different regimen just to see how much the sustiva was affecting my moods and med clearance.

Another thing...If you take Truvada, take it every day or stop altogether. Otherwise you run the risk of creating a resistance.

And another thing....It hasn't received a lot of press because there is concern of people dropping their guards, but someone with a fully repressed viral load on HAART is essentially non-contagious. So if you're out there having unprotected sex with people who think they are neg vs. and avoiding poz people that are undetectable, you're more at risk from the guy that's not taking any meds and thinks he's negative.

I say this mostly because a lot of people are using truvada to replace condoms, and a lot of younger guys have simply stopped using condoms altogether (regardless of truvada) thinking they can just avoid people that aren't "clean".

Anyway. You should talk with your doctor and make your own decision, but I think everyone "at risk" should be on it if it's medically sound. If poz people are treated and non-virulent; while negative people are protected with Truvada, the world is a better, safer place. Just the reduction of fear and shame around sex is a step forward.

Sorry for the soapbox. I can share more info if you like on any of these aspects.
