rapid lamictal titration?

I dropped tofranil, 150mgs/day. My pdoc wants me on Lamictal, 400gs on top of:
1200 trileptal
30 abilify
up to 200-300 Neurontin
and he wants me to start at 50mgs/day. Is that weird? I'm kinda scared. He's foreign, and I read they do lamictal titrations differently abroad. I've been on lamictal before, no problems.
