Usually swelling is caused by a high sodium level not a a low one even if you are not adding it to your food. Maybe your increased water intake is causing it. Have you had your bloods tested?
Increased thirst can have other causes too like diabetes.
Swelling can also be from venous insufficiency where fluid is not returned to your central circulation and stays in your legs.
I would have my bloods checked as a baseline based on the swelling. Yur docs should have done his already, right?
Is trileptal a salt? HAve to Goggle that.
