Despite battling borderline ADHD and attention/apathy issues from psych meds, I've had little success in adding a stimulant to my regimen for the same aforementioned reasons you discussed. I will say though that my experience with Vyvanse was definitely far less prone to causing dysphoria, irritability and come-down effects in comparison with Adderall. I also found generic Dexedrine to be smoother as well.
