A big question for all, is what TCA would you chose overall, as an add on to Parnate for depression and sleep? It seems like nortriptyline causes less weight gain and doesn't have the anti-cholinergic or anti-histamine effects of amitriptyline. I have used doxepin briefly for sleep.
And any other thoughts on meds. that can help overall.
I am surprised trazodone is used for sleep? I guess the 5HT effect at low doses is negligible for serotonin syndrome. I have used that a lot in the past for sleep and like the fact that it doesn't cause sexual dysfunction and I believe is weight neutural! Also, I know TCA's are known for weight gain and sexual dysfunction. Those were two of the main reasons that I choose Parnate over Nardil.
I am trying to get all of my ducks, or in this case meds. in a row. I see my pdoc in a week. So, I want to discuss all options. I am on deplin, klonopin, lamictal, ambien>fail for sleep, and will probably get back on modafinil +++. So any other ideas as far as sleep and augmentation are greatly appreciated!!! :)Also, I realize this is only day 4 on Parnate, but my depression has risen. And I need to get sleep in order to function at work during the day. Thanks guys!!!
