Well, whle i see your point about overly conservative doctors, combining an MAOI and a tricyclic isnt somthing to be done your self. For one thing, you'll need to start off both drugs at low doese and slowly increase to the theraputic range. Be extreamly careful whatever you decide to do.
As for the anxiety, could you ask you doctor for a benzo to take as needed (say 0.5mg of Xanax or 5mg of Valium prn)
