Workout supplements and Antidepressants

Posted by never2late on February 20, 2012, at 0:04:41

Hey now!

This is post no. 2 regarding food. But this question is different.
I take Effexor 150 XR, Concerta 54, Ritain IR 10 mg, Klonopin .05, and am starting lamictal at 25 mg vitamin D 5000IU, Folic Acid 1mg.

So after listing my Hunter S Thompsonesque drug regime my question is this: I work out. It helps relieve stress, keeps me in shape, and boosts my self esteem by keeping fit. Post workout I like to take Protein shakes and glutamine to help with recovery. Now whether this stuff works or not is not the issue, I read through the ingredients and was wondering if the large amounts of Amino Acids (e.g. Tyrosine, Glutamine, Tryptophan, Phenylalanine, Glutamine, Leucine, Taurine and all the rest) have any effect on the way that my meds are working?

I was thinking about how I thought I read somewhere about not taking L Tryptophan if your taking an AD as it might cause the med to not work right. Using that logic, if I am taking Lamictal, which inhibits Glutamate release in sodium channels, should I be taking Glutamine? Is glutamine even the same thing as Glutamate?

Sciencey stuff isnt my forte. Can someone explain this to me?
