Well, it is a stimulant so keep that in mind. That said, depending on ones's chemistry, it calms down ADD ADHD folks. My opinion is that yes it can be helpful for all spectrums of psychiatric disease including what they call bipolar, but by itself is problematic. In other words, a good cocktail ingredient with 2 or 3 meds, but not usually that reliable all by itself. Mileage varies.
Ritalin is one of my few as-needed emergency meds that seems to help me out of that deep dark dungeon pretty fast when I really need a rescue.
The primary drawback I have with it is the comedown as it wears off.
It certainly isn't a common approach for bipolar, but then it seems to me some of the more uncommon approaches can work better than the common ones. The common ones I think are usually more grounded in profit motives and industry ritual but not actual success rates.
