Akathisia is not like OCD or GAD.
Akathisia is a type of intense physical restlessness which is normally caused by antipsychotics, but other drugs can be involved. In akathisia, patients are distressed by the horrible sensation of not being able to stay still for even a short time.
Patients with anxiety may be physically restless due to their anxiety, but the restlessness is less severe and is not the primary problem. They are not distressed because they are restless, they are restless because their anxiety is distressing.
