How can Deplin be considered safe???

Hello, Can someone please explain how Deplin is considered safe when supposedly one 7.5 tablet is equivalent to taking something like 66 folic acid tablets? I used deplin some years ago with partial success, however this time around I am having this strange side effect of burning and numbness in my feet. I am scared that maybe the deplin is affecting my nerves. Is this possible? How much research has been done on this?
