It might be worth switching to nortriptyline 75mg at night. This will give about the same sedative effect (nortriptyline is about 1/6 as sedating as amitriptyline) but it is a full antidepressant dose that will help ease anxiety and depression within 2-3 weeks.

Other option is to keep taking amitriptyline at bedtime for sleep, and add a second med (Zoloft, Welbutrin, Effexor) in the morning for depression
