In reply to alternative to blood pressure meds??? please help, posted by MatthewDavid on April 3, 2011, at 8:49:04
hey, blood pressure is fixable. some changes may take up to a year maybe for full effect, like w-3 oil - oil in cell walls, fat storage has slow turnover so you need to "oil change" ?~30lbs of fat, which doesn't happen right away.
really, i'm going to say diet, even though that isn't a pill (hopefully). why take garlic pills when you could eat garlic??? eg, taurine was mentioned. taurine is found in fish. so eat some trout.
and i've kind of forgoten some things, causes of factors of good health are very correlated, so in the end, whats the difference.
most important,i would say eat good food, not too much, meditate, and do some exercise.
salt matters for some people. But getting enough water (tea counts!) and potassium are more important. Salt is more a marker of crappy food than the cause of bp. if food come from a box, don't eat it.
in general, eat some vegetables, fruit, nuts, legumes. some whole grains/bran, starchy tubers, seafood, some meat. fat - oil oil is a good first choice.magnesium - nuts, beans, peas, veg, bran/whole grains.
potassium - veg, fruit, potatoes
coq10 - sup, (or eat offal, red palm oil, etc)
cocoa - dark chocolate
2 drinks a day
melatonin before bedexercise - find something you enjoy. i like to lift weights. other good ideas - join a team, or walk dogs from the local pound.
meditate - i like zen. lots of options here.
anyway, if that doesn't work (in the 'work with your lifestyle' kind of way) ,i think ACE inhibitors are the best thing to try (unless you are black, in salt is more important and a diuretic would be the first choice).
