Benzos are only so-so at preventing anxiety in my experience. I used to take Klonopin, and the side effects of being less mentally sharp, and disinhibited behavior (at higher doses) were more robust than the anxiolytic effect. At a dose that kept side effects under control, it did not abolish all anxiety.

I didn't have any problems with addiction and wanting to increase the dose. My friend was taking the 2mg pills in large quantities and got into all kinds of trouble, including a DUI. But he was reckless by nature and didn't even attempt to be responsible.
