Inflammation + Treatment-Resistant Depression

Posted by jjjaspar on March 28, 2011, at 12:42:11

I was very surprised to read about a research study to see if a medication which is a very strong anti-inflammatory agent called infliximab is an effective antidepressant in people who are medically healthy but have treatment-resistant depression.

We'll have to wait a while to see the outcome of that. I'd read before about the connection with pro-inflammatory cytokines before: http://itsnotmental.blogspot.com/2008/04/inflammation-of-body-and-brain.html but this type of testing will be taken more seriously if it pans out because it will be using a pharmaceutical agent a company can sell by prescription, if I understand this correctly.
