Re: Seroquel / Zyprexa chemicals?

In reply to Seroquel / Zyprexa chemicals?, posted by SheilaC on May 30, 2010, at 18:39:58

Zyprexa hits a wide range of receptors in the serotonin, norepinephrine, dopamine, and histamine systems. Probably others we don't know about as well. It can turn on or turn up a couple dozen genes while simultaneously turning down or turning off a couple dozen others. Its chemical name is also very similar to benzos.

Seroquel, in my opinion only, others may differ, is not at all similar to zyprexa. It shares some of the same targets as zyprexa, but they are just not comparable.

I agree with you. Zyprexa, when it works, has something magical about it.

The weight gain thing. If you love zyprexa, I doubt seriously you will find anything to duplicate it. Nothing is like zyprexa. It stands alone. So the primary weight control is not a drug or an anecdote, but rather, your own hands at the grocery store. What you put in the grocery cart.

Zyprexa will not have anywhere near the power to increase your weight when 70% of your diet is vegetables, your intake of carbs is very low, and your intake of any kind of sugar is very low. Your diet will be dramatically different than you have become accustomed to your whole life. Except for maybe once a week in a small portion, there is no place for a soda, ice cream, donuts, or pizzas. That's the old unhealthy you. Live the right diet though, and your side effects are greatly improved health and longevity, not to mention the weight control.

This is true. When you change your food choices, you crave strongly the foods you have stopped. But that goes away in one to two months. The cravings disappear. Even more profound is that your taste buds change too. They now prefer your new foods over the old ones, even when given a free choice with both in front of you.

No matter what kind of careful food choices one follows, I do believe zyprexa can still add on about 5 to 10 pounds no matter. You could probably just drink water and still gain 5 pounds on zyprexa! :-) Seriously though, the weight gain will be 90% controlled with your hands...what you put in the grocery cart. It seems to me a worthy deal to enjoy a med that makes you feel good. If that's part of the deal, so be it, be happy you at least have the opportunity. So many others don't.

So many others would give anything they had in order to find a med that makes them feel like zyprexa does to you and they would change their food choices in a heartbeat if that was part of the deal. Consider yourself very lucky. Don't waste it.
