Withdrawing from Klonopin causes Insomnia

Posted by cindy567 on May 29, 2010, at 13:03:37

Hello,

Has anyone has found anything that has helped with their benzo-withdrawal-related insomnia. (I don't have insomnia otherwise.)

I've been withdrawing from Klonopin since May 2009. I started at 2 mg and am down to .5 mg. It was a rough year with more side effects than I care to mention :)

I decided that from .50 to 0, I would compound the klonopin so I could taper in smaller increments. I have found that compounding is definitely a lot better, but that as soon as I start to taper--even just 2%-- I suffer from insomnia.

Apparantly, my brain doesn't like to have the level of klonopin adjusted. As soon as I drop the dosage at all, I just quit sleeping.

I have tried: melatonin, hops, passionflower, valerian, chamomile tea, and maybe a few other things that aren't coming to mind right now. (memory loss is definitely one of the side effects!)

Any suggestions are welcome. Thank you :)
Cindy
