well if you are overweight + not exercising probably are insulin resistant to some extent. so it might be good for that.

for weight loss, i think there was one study but it hasn't been replicated.

better to focus on reducing the carbs that are causing the probablem in the first place

for appetite supression, nicotine is a good one. plus having non-calorie things like tea around for when you are bored, and just keeping busy makes it harder to mindlessly eat.
