Of the two you mentioned only Imipramine blocks the reuptake of serotonin, and only moderately. I have never taken a tricyclic, but from what I have heard amitriptyline, and clomipramine seem to be the most potent. The others like nortriptyline and protriptyline are probably less effective and may have less side effects.
