Actually, she could take both at the same time and that'd be even better for whatever problem (depression, most likely) she has.
Isn't Lamictal an augmentor/mood stabilizer for an MAOI?
My doctor was considering adding Lithium/Lamictal or Abilify to my 80mgs of Parnate. And he will end up doing that if my current cocktail (Parnate + Adderall + Nortriptyline) don't work as expected.
So instead of "Parnate OR Lamictal" you should go with "Parnate AND Lamictal."
(provided you need a mood stabilizer or/and an augmentor for the MAOI)
