For what it's worth, it's an atypical TCA, whose pharmacalogical effects are very different from other TCAs. Effexor is not appreciably similar, and wellbutrin is only similar in the broadest possible way, i.e. both it and amineptine increase the availability of catecholamines in the CNS. That's not much.

It's probably still available from research chemical companies, though it's technically illegal (though not a controlled substance) and probably expensive. I would suggest it's more similar to methylphenidate and amphetamine in its effects than to either of the meds mentioned above. Neither of those drugs (the stimulants) tend to be miracles (amineptine wasn't either, for most users), but maybe they (or modafinil/provigil) would help with the symptoms described by the initial poster.
