I think this drug is better in conjunction with a stimulant... are you on one? Also, I don't think I would want to take any more than 2mg personally.
I took this from Rxlist:
"The recommended initial dose of guanfacine (as the hydrochloride) when given alone or in combination with another antihypertensive drug is 1 mg daily given at bedtime to minimize somnolence. If after 3 to 4 weeks of therapy, 1 mg does not give a satisfactory result, a dose of 2 mg may be given, although most of the effect of guanfacine is seen at 1 mg (see CLINICAL PHARMACOLOGY). Higher daily doses have been used, but adverse reactions increase significantly with doses above 3 mg/day."
The above paragraph is talking about Tenex(guanfacine immediate release) for blood pressure but still, they say the most effective dose is 1mg and no more than 2 is typically used. I'm just guessing, but I would think that would be similar to 2-4mg of Intuniv with 2mg possibly being more effective.
I think the higher you go on your dosage, the sleepier/weaker you're going to get plus the depression... I myself got depression from Propranolol. You don't want to block all of your adrenaline.
As far as kicking in, I'm not a doctor but i don't think it's one of those meds that take awhile to kick in. I think it's something you notice effects on right away, though they can build more over time.
> I have been ramping up from 1mg to 3mg. The max peds dose is 4mg, I calculate that in mg/kg, that would be closer to 11mg for adults, according to their mg/kg specifications on the prescribing sheet.
