Hey I got it from doxy twice, once in Thailand, very badly and I was working outside, so I just had to cover up which was horrid because it was during the build up to monsoon season which is very uncomfortable, around 40c (104f) and +90% humidity. The best thing I can advise is to get a massive hat and swim in long sleeve's, like a lot of us southern aussies do. No one looks twice at you here for doing that, and stuff them if they they do. I've just started lamictal and found out it can do the same. If it does, I'll have to drop it, because working in long sleeves is impossible here during summer.
It didn't make a difference for me how strong the sunscreen was either! My sister swam in a caftan, LOL
