Luvox is a bit of a black sheep among the SSRIs. It's one of the oldest SSRIs (it was first synthesized in 1971 by a Dutch researcher working at Philips-Duphar), but it was never marketed very cleverly. It's ridiculous that it has only been approved for OCD in the States, since it is equally effective (or ineffective) as the other SSRIs at lifting depression. The association between Luvox and the Columbine High School murders hasn't been very helpful (although any SSRI could turn some people into murderers).
Apparently, most prescribing doctors follow trends, and the pills they prescribe most are the pills that have had the most aggressive marketing. I never like to see a Zyprexa-pencil or a Lexapro-note-holder in my p-doc's office.
