Parnate withdrawal- pls help- psych doc unavail

Posted by Mickapoo on May 7, 2009, at 10:30:41

I go to a non profit clinic to receive treatment from a pdoc for social phobia. I was on Nardil, 75mg, for 6 months or so, and when it didn't hlep my social phobia, my dr put me on Parnate. I was on Parnate just a total of 3 weeks, 30 mg. My pdoc is changing my med, and wants me off the Parnate. I got a call from the clinic stating he won't be avail for an appt for 6 weeks or so.

So, I've been on 30mg of Parnate, and stopped taking it suddenly two days ago. I'm fatigued with a really "out of it" sort of feeling like everything is surreal. Want to sleep but restless at the same time. Very uncomfortable. Almost dizzy. I guess I made a mistake stopping abruptly. I started at 30 mg (never went from 10mg and increased), so I thought I could stop there too.

I took 1 Parnate today to try to get rid of these awful withdrawals. Should I take two more today, in essence go back to 30 mg/day, and then after a few days maybe go to 20 mg/day, and then a few days after that 10 mg, then a few days after that I can stop? What's the best regimen for quitting Parnate?

Thank you!
