> I am seeing my psychiatrist soon and am going to ask for another med for my severe anxiety. I'm on a Effexor/Lithium/Buspirone cocktail at the moment which isn't doing all it should be. Benzos are really struggling to help too. I have GAD, panic disorder, social phobia and moderate depression.

Buspar roughly only works to /an extent/ for about 1/3 of people who take it.

I assume you've tried Paxil (yes, weight gain is there) for panic disorder and social phobia?

I guess you must be able to respond a more stimulation combination because Lithium has a lot of rough issues.

Have you been through a trial of Lamictal ? It has an antidepressant component to it for some people.

> I've considered Zyprexa; however, I get severe weight gain with it, so am thinking about Seroquel.

Some people get more weight gain with Zyprexa and some get more with Seroquel. It is true that they are both liabilities (I know personally, just my own reaction) and I am attempting hard to keep my food intake down.

> Is Seroquel really effective against anxiety problems and depression (I read on wikipedia that it's in stage 3 trials for both)? I took it around 12 months ago at doses of up to 200mg but it didn't seem to help - should I try a higher dose? Zyprexa only really helps me at 10mg+ so maybe a higher dose of Seroquel is necessary.

Yes.... I could go into my own idiopathic reactions but that's beside the point, I have mentioned them before, my combination disorders are vexing to say the least.

So that being said, I would say for the vast majority of the population who respond to APs for anxiety (and depressive) disorders, or augmentation, Seroquel, not ignoring metabolic issues with a number of APs, is a good augmentation for high anxiety and depression.

Besides the aforementioned metabolic issues, it carries probably the least liability of problems of APs on the market.

It's hard to match what dose APs are compared to another one, but if I were to take a guess for the 10+ mg of Zyprexa, 250-300 and up of Seroquel would probably be a /very rough/ estimate.
