Well eventually all sleep aids come to an end. I can tell you since I have a serious sleep disorder which contributes comorbidly to my other problems.

And no, no doctor, let alone a psychiatrist, would rationally give barbiturates these days with licensing getting tougher except in certain serious conditions like tough epilepsy cases -- they don't have antidotes.

As far as sleep aids --- if you are not on any benzodiazepine, or very small amounts, then you have a good luck with Lunesta probably.

Otherwise, choices like Trazodone, doxepin, and amitriptyline will work --- for a while, say a month or two -- Trazodone might work even more for you, depends, but one keeps having to back and forth the dose usually because one gets used to it.

Its the merry go round of sleep aids, unfortunately.

Otherwise, one could get a sleep study, or try to stay up all day without napping until one is actually tired, exercise, all the things that I admittedly have trouble doing.

I know its hard
