I'm BP1 and have tried all of those (one doc insisted I was ADD). As far as mood enhancing properties methlphenidate was by far the best but I ended up abusing it quite a bit. Took it for almost a year and it never made me manic - euphoric due to how I took it - but never manic.

Amphetamine (Adderal/Dexadrine) both made me way too zoned in. To be honest all I wanted to do was sit at the computer and watch porn all day :( And it was like I couldn't get myself to switch tasks. The first few days I'd get a little mood bump from them but after that they were almost numbing...

Wellbutrin was a huge disappointment for me. It sounds awesome on paper (no sexual side effects / increased dopamine / etc) so I had very high hopes. After 5-days taking 300mg of the extended release I developed the WORST akethesia ever - and I'd never experienced that before. Basically I couldn't sit still at all w/o feeling this unbearable urge to move. I couldn't watch TV, use the computer, go anywhere, etc....it was HORRIBLE. I live w/ my folks in Florida so I spent three days in the SPA and/or shower as the water contact was the only way to avoid the feeling. Eventually my doc gave me clonopin (day 3) to get through and eventually I recovered. I've never read of anyone else having such a bad experience with wellbutrin but that was mine. www.askapatient.com would have more anecodes on it.

As for me I'm currently on Lamictal (w/ a small dose of Seroquel at night to make sure I sleep). It's done the job for over a year at keeping me from getting depressed. I'm cutting back a bit (from 100 to 50) to see if I feel a little more myself. I also play guitar and have been having hand cramping problems so I'm trying to figure out if Lamictal is in some way related to that. But bottom line it's been a pretty good drug for me (no sexual side effects/etc)....

So of the three you mentioned I'd say go Ritalin - just try not to take it more often then prescribed as I did...

Cheers,

-Jay
