Hi,

I know I sound like a broken record but it bears repeating. The RN who runs the Paxil Progress boards recommends that Paxil be tapered at 10% of the current dose every 3 to 6 weeks. Since an antipsychotic is even more powerful, the rate of tapering may have to be even slower.

I don't know anything about whether this drug can be cut or not so I will list a few ways how to do this.

1. If it can be cut, buy a digital jewelry scale on e-bay so you can accurately measure the doses.

2. If it can't be cut, find a local compound pharmacist and ask your physician to write the correct prescription that you would take to this person. They will be able to make the right dosage. This advice is assuming that the dose you need can't be filled at your local drug store.

The downside of a compound pharmacist is that insurance coverage might be sticky.

If the above methods aren't feasible, make as small a cut as possible and wait 8 weeks before making another cut.

The reasoning behind the slow tapers is if you taper too fast, it is like throwing the car in reverse at 60 miles per hour. When you brake slowly, you don't have as many problems.

Even a slow taper doesn't guarantee you won't have withdrawal symptoms. But they will be less.
