first risperdal to exclude dopamine, then abilify?

Posted by MrBrice on March 20, 2008, at 6:55:41

Hi guys,

i've been on this board about 1.5 years ago, while i was still young and restless. Now i'm in a psychiatric clinic, beeing treated properly i hope. (it's called Kortenberg and it's in Belgium)

The docters put me on 3 mg's risperdal at first, i guess to really exclude the over-dopamine in my brain. Now i'm at the point that i don't find pleasure in nothing no more, nothing of activities is of interest to me, i'm completely flattened out.

Now the docter is going to lower the dosage of risperdal from 2 to 1 mg, and add abilify, with the intend of switching to abilify completely in a while.

I wanted to know, is this a known treatment? It sounds logical: work out the dopamine at first, and then start to stabilize it with the stabilizer.

Anyone ever made the same switch? Anyone with same experiences?

thanks a bunch,
Brice
