I get what I call spontaneous bleeds in my hands, specifically my fingers. I will notice a swelling and tightening of the skin in my finger or hand, with some immediate discoloration, like a bruise. Sometimes its from slight trauma and other times for no reason at all.

Perhaps you did this with all your typing and a small blood vessel burst and caused some bleeding into the soft tissues of your finger. Is it discolored at all besides being swollen? If this is what happened it usually resolves within a few days, but the numbness is more confusing unless the swelling has pressed on a nerve.

I would use some ice to reduce the swelling and hopefully the numbness will dissipate. I wouldn't rush to a neuro until you give it a chance to resolve. But if you are convinced it is comething more serious, by all means you may want to see someone, even just your GP. I would wait a few days myself, but I'm a skeptic about doctors, especially with odd complaints.

Besides neurologists are impossible to get an appt with and they cost $$$ so unless you have it, take a few days and see what happens with ice to reduce the swelling. YOu may have to lay off the extreme typing or whatever you may be doing with your hands/fingers.
