Apo-Divalproex and Effexxor

Posted by whimsyfish on August 27, 2007, at 18:16:18

Hello Everyone,

I am new to this board. I have just been diagnosed with a mild bipolar condition. I have been on Effexor 37.5 mg for three years which worked for me for awhile, and then panic/anxiety/irratability/depression and mood swings got really out of control. My pdoc has just presribed 125 mg of APO-DIVALPROEX, which I think is also known as DEPAKOKE. I haven't started this med yet. I was wondering if anyone has tried this med and has it caused any weight gain or other problems?

I have gained a little weight (about 10 pounds over three years) with the Effexor but not a whole lot. I used to be super skinny before meds, but now I'm "normal" with a spare tire. My cousin used to be very thin and is Bipolar I, was put on a lot of meds and subsequently gained a lot of weight. Listen to me, I'm more worried about getting fat then getting rid of my mood disorder!! Well, I want to get better but just not fatter.

I also want to know if there are any mores serious side effects of the DIVALPROEX that I should be aware of.

Effexor I know is really hard to get off of. When I miss one day, I am a mess with dizziness, brain zaps, headaches, nausea and strong irritability. Does anyone know if DIVALPROEX is hard to get off?
