You know that I have followed your postings for some time, so you may have an idea that I'm not just grasping something out of thin air. What's more, the fact that I do respond to you might lead you to recognize that I care what happens to you, so I hope you'll read what I have to say without thinking I'm attacking you in some way.

Here's what I've seen:

You post late at night, sounding rather -- how shall I put this? "Energized," might cover it. You've posted about drinking a lot of those energy drinks, and when you did get Dexedrine from your doctor a while back, your mother went looking for it in your car because she caught you with red eyes, etc, at night.

I'm thinking that your morning difficulties might not be unrelated to that.

Here's what I've learned in my life: when I make a serious effort to maintain a structured sleep schedule, my depression improves. If I stay up late enough to get a "second wind," my depression increases. Maybe if you chose to avoid those late nights, you'd find the mornings easier to take?

More, despite what you describe as "mania," I suspect the true picture if a bit more complicated than that. Many people here have suggested you try psychotherapy, and I certainly think that would be the very best thing for you. Failing that, what about getting a second opinion? I know you posted that your pdoc graduated in 1955, and if that's true, he's pushing 80 -- it's time to get a second opinion if that's true. If you were exaggerating on that, it's still time to get a second opinion, including a full diagnostic assessment. Preferably with a doctor who won't allow your mother in the room for the entire thing. It's fine if he wants permission to talk to her, but if you've asked that she be excluded from your appointments, and she's still allowed in, there's a major problem with the doctor.

Lithium? Maybe. But why not find out what's really going on? Why not find out if there's something easier on your body to try first? Why not look at other, more benign options first? Do you want to deal with the side effects? Do you want to control salt intake, etc, in order to maintain blood levels? Do you want the frequent blood draws to check levels? Or do you just want to feel better, which might be possible without all that?

I do hope things go well for you, and I hope you get out of the space you've been in for some time. I'm very sorry for the loss of your cat -- I lost my best beloved cat in February, and am not over it yet, despite a new kitten in our family.

Good luck.
