Hi, Michael.
I'm taking between 9 and 12 mg. (I sometimes take the patch off at night, but I've started taking 12 mg recently). This time around, I've been taking it since the beginning of December, 2006, or about 5 1/2 months. I also took it for almost four months last spring-summer.
I felt an effect pretty quickly, within about 7-10 days, but it was not a strong effect. Still I 'm pretty sure it was the Emsam.
It helps a great deal with anxiety and energy. Even though I had some initial agitation, that disappeared and I found, even with the agitation, I had a simultaneous lessening of anxiety. I know that doesn't sound sensible, but I felt a distinction. In general, my social and general anxiety are much less.
I've always used xanax for anxiety, and I still use it fairly often, if I have a lot of anxiety, which still sometimes happens. However, I'm doing things that before I never would have considered because of the amount of anxiety I had about them. I use seroquel and ambien for insomnia.
I'd say the effect strengthened at some point after several months. In fact, I noticed a much greater change in affect and energy after several months, than I did during the first couple of months.
I'll write you a more detailed email, if you'd like. I'm also using some other things that I think augment the effect of Emsam for me.
