I second/third/fourth the recommendation to have a blood test for glycated hemoglobin. There is no better way to determine the average exposure of the blood to free glucose, over a period of time, as opposed to the "snapshot" provided from measuring a single blood sample. Everybody has some glycated hemoglobin. How much tells you whether you're at risk for diabetic complications, or not.
