Benzodiazepines can have paradoxical anxiety, this is not completely uncommon.Ativan and Xanax is sort of a redundant mixture in a sense, you're mixing two powerful agents that tend to have an immediacy effect on quelling anxiety, its just that Ativan has a longer half life of around 12 hours.
Instead of taking (x) with Xanax, why not just convince your doctor for a higher dose of Xanax purely for PRN (pro re ne, as needed) dosing ?
I know, we've all done it too probably, I've mixed Kava with my benzodiazepines, etc... people mix alcohol which potentiates things, but there's a certain uncertainty factor involved.
Restoril has a fairly long half life, up to a day, but this can vary wildly.
As long as you're not taking enormous quantities of any of the above, you're not going to be comatose as benzodiazepines have a high tolerance (please don't use this as an excuse for taking high amounts). Restoril and Xanax or anything else is not an uncommon combination since Restoril generally affects the sedative-hypnotic side of GABA-A more. Restoril is a metabolite of Valium.
-- hope you find yourself in a better place.
