not to be negative, but most drug "research" is funded by the company with the drug patent. heck ever hear of the particle wave duality? this is not science-its profiteering. personally, i do not believe that these "researchers" are the elite. omg, psychiatric degress are the easiest to get, no chopping up hearts, lungs, stomachs...it (nor medicine) is a science, it is a business with an scientific facade; hence the current dirth of pdoc applicants because as a discipline its lost almost all its authority, all its prestige.

at its highest medicine is an art form.

and it is the best we have, and has come a long way in a short time. 58 years ago we isolated serotonin. now we have fMRI.

yes, and we do have options. that is good. non-invasive imaging techniques and genomic analysis opens doors like never before. these aspects of the science are where i have faith for the industry.

pill pushing fits readily into double blind studies. its a clear formula, offering predictable statistical profit margins.

all knowledge (epistemology) is based on or from some form of relevant or irrelevant profiteering. i just think its poppycock to give any ethical applause to the pharmaceutical industry as a whole in this day and age.

unfortunately, this doesn't mean i won't support it financially.

we, the US have the best medical system on the planet.
too bad no one can afford it.
we're sooo steeped in irony, the word is meaningless.
