I don't know if this is the same thing or not, but I suffer from social phobia and depression and often feel as if there is a glass wall between me and the world. There appears to be no barrier, but when I reach out I find myself unable to connect, and attempts by people to reach me get blocked as well. Because the wall's invisible, it looks as if everything is as it should be, only it isn't really.
