Augmenting agents for s/e

Posted by tensor on November 20, 2006, at 17:21:15

In the past I had to discontinue Ixel(milnacipran) and Edronax(reboxetine) due to urological(severe ones) s/e incl. urinary retention, pain on ejaculation, premature ejaculation and pain in the genital area. These are SNRI and NARI respectively. I responded well to these meds. The problems arise probably because they are NE reuptake inhibitors but lacks the NE-alpha blockade found in TCAs. Acetylcholine could also play a role in this. I don't get these kind of s/e of nortrip which is a strong NE reuptake inhibitor.
Anyone that have had these problems and successfully found an antidote? There are alpha blockers like tamsulosin and naftopidil but I don't know how well they work, so first-hand experiences or ideas would be very appreciated.
