It's surprising the number of medications out there that have preservatives in them. I mean, I know they need to be stable, but for example eye and nose care products for people who are sensitive in those areas to begin with often have preservatives so they can have longer shelf lives and they don't have to go through as many procedures to keep them safe. They do sell "preservative-free" saline and other things but they're more expensive.

And then there's the tartrazine (FD&C Yellow #6) allergy -- not totally common, but some people have it, and not only does it appear in candy but it also unnecessarily appears in certain doses of medication to vary the color so people know what size pill it is. Tartrazine is very yellow, agreed, but they could use something else.
