What does this section mean? (I kind gave up on most sites, most advice, and most flavor-of-the-month meds years ago (Emsam would fall into that category) and don't bother looking so I I am probably out of the loop.)
"Support group sites that offer tea and sympathy when it comes to medications. They are great for living with whatever it is you have, but far too often will just enable bad choices in not taking your meds or trying to take the wrong drugs for the wrong reasons.

I've never really looked at CrazyMeds because I thought it fell into the group of "glib sites that condemn all neurological medications as tools of the devil."
Most people I know fall into that group. I have a nephew (who has a sister with problems like I do) who thinks he "understands" but believes we could overcome our depression and anxiety with "proper thinking" and "breathing in the light."
I always say (to the confused looks of people like him): When you want to kill yourself, meds are are the lesser of two evils.
I split the world into two camps- those who have thought about suicide and those who haven't. "Those who haven't" don't get it. It is even worse if I run into a doctor or religious person who don't "get it." I have a cousin who reads the bible all the time and looks like a cadaver or someone with cancer but refuses to admit his insomnia and forced smiles may indicate he needs some kind of mental health care.
Of course, a large portion of people are delusional about death and disability. I work at a very good county funded nursing home and people complain about their taxes. We provide better care that most profit orientated nursing homes but when asked directly, people will deny that they or anyone they care about will need a clean well staffed facility so why should they pay for a county nursing home. Our county is being sued (by disability groups of all people) because it wants to expand a school for the mentally retarded. I know there is a difference between mental retardation, death, the elderly and psychological problems... but the internet sites crazymeds talks about are just more evidence that people refuse to walk in someone else's shoes and realize "problems" exist and no treatment or idea is applicable to everyone.
It is very easy, I guess, to ignore reality. Realism is a benefit of depression I've been told. If that is true, I've had reality shoved down my throat many times. but as I mentioned, my nephew doesn't believe or understand me. I don't really expect much imagination from most people. People don't believe they will get old, or the mentally disabled may prefer "segregation" or I really do want to kill myself do to emotional turmoil
