Those were mainly professional medical magizines,
the intended audience are all english speaking docs. Big pharma have significant ownership outside the US; GlaxoSmithKline PLC, Novartis AG, Sanofi-Aventis, and AstraZeneca Group PLC for example.

The Navane and Mellaril ads are a hoot, given what we know today.

> But I believe in it -- how you implement it.. (staggering) with 300 million people (I'm old enough to remember this country when it had a bit more than 250 million.) I haven't the faintest idea. It would probably have to be a public-private partnership with the government propping up existing HMO and PPOs. But that's politics...

I think there are several things that need to be fixed. I think the FDA needs to conduct independent testing on all meds for approval,
or perhaps take over the last stage(s) of testing. Provide enough money to make research into innovative meds an attractive offer. Increase spending on medical research generally and on pharmacology research.

We do see ads for psych drugs quite often on TV and in print in the US. Big pharma charges the US and some other countries a much higher price for their products so that other countries can have affordable meds. So big pharma flogs their products without mercy in the media where they charge the most.
